High Street

I used to write of streetlights
Stoplights, neon bar signs
I used to parade the streets
Leading my demons to the moonlight
My favorite sensation back then
Was always drowning
But one day you showed up and
Your eyes blinded every other light in town and
Stopped me dead in my tracks
In the middle of a bar fight
And nothing made a sound
In that silence, I caught a glimpse
Of everything I ever wanted
Lost my demons with the darkness
Still, I’ve never felt so haunted
And in a flash, you were gone again, quick as you came
That’s when I lost the streetlights
Forgot the stoplights, neon bar signs
Now I wander dead-end streets
You stole the magic in the moonlight
