Kindling

Two hours beyond our goodbye, I read this line:
“I could start fires with what I feel for you.”
It strikes pretty damn hard for words that aren’t mine
And if I say it out loud, it rings true

There were moments and seconds and hours we spent
Some with tension, some with nonsense
But the more I laughed, the faster they went
And before I knew it, I made you a promise

I swore that I’d call you out if I ever got tired
Of your chatter or singing or bullshit
But I’ll never bring an end to something I so admire
I just wanna learn more about it

You’re a smooth talker and you’re a charmer
You wink at me like you’re the next Bond
I only laugh because it’s my armor
Not because you’ve done anything wrong

And once the hours manage to slip by us
And it’s time for everyone to go
All I can think to say is, “let’s try us”
But instead, it’s just “take care” as you go

And now here I am, two hours past goodbye
There’s still so much to say, so much to do
And you’ve set up camp here on my mind
“I could start fires with what I feel for you.”
