Better than he ever was

I couldn’t tell if he was proud, angry, or destroyed.
His green eyes rolled and glowed and burned.
Words were lost in his throat.
His face, in showing everything, still managed to hide it all too well.
Confusion twitched at his shoulders as he tried to clear his mind with one blink right after another.
I stood in silence, waiting for him to respond.
Part of him stared back, dumbfounded, seeming to say, “come again?”
Part of him wanted to tear me to shreds.
Part of him beamed.
